Should the decision to have a baby be a joint decision?

Topic

Today it's all about babies and how and when couples decide to have them. Normally it is a joint decision, but in some cases the woman decides without consulting the man. Mwalimu is of the opinion that making such a decision without consulting the man is a grave offense.

My Human Opinion

This is not just about the decision to have a baby; it's about all (major) decisions the couple makes. Should the husband consult the wife when buying that plot? Should the wife consult the husband when accepting that job abroad? Sorry I digress. Let's stick to the baby making decision for now.

Now, people, we are talking about making another human being. This is not something that should be taken lightly.

As the topic suggested, normally having a baby should be a joint decision. However, I believe those supporting Mwalimu's opinion want to have the cake and eat it. As with all things major, it is wise to plan. But we all know accidents happen. Therefore, if you decide to warm yourself by a bonfire then be ready to smell of smoke. Be ready.

That said, any successful marriage depends on effective communication. The couple should plan family matters together. If that is easier said than done then there are other problems that need to be sorted first.

However, if you as the man want to touch but don't want to leave your fingerprints lying around then glove up.

My Biblical Opinion

Can you force someone to give you a gift? Well, maybe you can but then again that would not be a gift.

Children are a gift from God, Psalms 127:3-5, and should likewise be considered as such. Therefore, the decision really belongs to the Lord God Almighty. You don't think so? Let me give you an example.

There were two young people, called Joseph and Mary, who were engaged to be married. Before they could consummate their marriage, the Lord appeared to Mary and told her that she would be expecting a child, conceived by the Holy Spirit. She accepted these terms. Her husband-to-be wanted to take off. But the Lord told him in a dream that it would be a good idea if he stuck around. And he did. And Mary gave birth to the greatest child ever to be born, the Lord Jesus Christ, saviour of this world.

Okay, you must be thinking that that was extreme but you get the point. Ours is to receive and rejoice.

Children are special. God has been with each one of us each step of the way from when we were conceived to now. Believe it.

See what the Lord Jesus said about children:
Luke 18:
16But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
Jesus said that those who are Child-like i.e. humble and all-trusting are the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.
And He went on to add special protection for children.
Matthew 18:
5And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.
6But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Welcome a child in you life today.

We don't know who he/she will become in the future. But God does. See you tomorrow
