Is it true that married women pray for their husbands not to get money?

Today Maina and Mwalimu started the week with another sensitive topic in marriage; money. Apparently some women pray that their husbands not to get money. They believe that should their husbands prosper then they (husbands) would stray. So Maina and Mwalimu wanted to know, was that true?

My Human Opinion

Some listeners were not happy that the daily topic was about women...again! However, we shall continue.

Come on people, money (too much or too little) does make us do funny, and not so funny things. I want to extend the definition of money to include material resources i.e. oil, water, minerals, precious stones etc, and I don't need your permission to.

Everything men do in their lives is in the pursuit of money and/or women. So I think the women have something to worry about their rival; money. But the problem comes in the methodology of taking care of the problem. More below.

So, is it true that a prosperous man can stray? I think true. Is it true that women pray for their husbands not to prosper? I don't know. But I do know that there are better things to pray for.

My Biblical Opinion

The Bible has a lot to say about money and especially about the love of money. And in a sense, the women have something to fear. Check out this story in Matthew 19:16-24
16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”
17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”
Jesus said, “ ‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?”
21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
The point Jesus was making was that it is very easy for we humans to worship money, to love money more than Jesus (like this young man). And once we love money men fall into many foolish and harmful lusts. What we can call disastrous ambitions.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Wives, however, praying that your husbands do not prosper in their business/career is not being very wise. You are not being a helper. And I will take you to the very beginning. Genesis 2:18

18 And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”
In fact, don't even pray that your husband prospers. Instead pray that he doesn't walk in counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.

Psalm 1:1-3
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
Also pray that he knows contentment. Contentment in his work, contentment in you, contentment in his life, contentment in his achievements, contentment in his children, contentment...
Hebrews 13:5
Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have.

Who knows, maybe your prayers will make his success not get into his head. We surely don't know. But God does.
26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
See you tomorrow.
