Divine Health; Divine Healing

Today Maina wa Kageni and Mwalimu Kingangi have taken a welcome break from their usual topic(s). It was (about) to get monotonous quoting and re-quoting the same Bible verses again and again and again and—(see what I mean?).

Today they were talking about health, especially the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which leads to, among others, cervical cancer. The show was very educative.

However, we shall take it a step higher and talk about divine healing.

My Human Opinion

Disease is one of the consequences of sin. Disease was not in God's design. However, just like the best laid plans, stuff happens—and plan B is required. Let's find out more below.

My Biblical Opinion

God created man in His own image. Part of that image was to be immortal. No disease. No sicknesses. No pain. No dreaded aging. No deterioration. No death!

However, Adam and Eve disobeyed God, sin (separation from God) was introduced. And with it came death.

 Genesis 2:16-17
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
First was spiritual death, then came the physical death.
Genesis 3:19
19 By the sweat of your brow
       you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
       since from it you were taken;
       for dust you are
and to dust you will return."
Romans 5:12  Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned—
Please note that sickness in general is not a consequence of a particular sin you have committed. It is a consequence of Adam's and Eve's original sin. However, your own sin, or that of generations past, can bring disease upon you.
Leviticus 15:26 He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you."
Just as disease came through one man, healing also come through another man, Jesus.
1 Peter 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
And when Jesus comes back, there will be a New Jerusalem, free from disease, free from pain, free from death.
Revelations 21:3-5

3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.
4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
5He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."

The Bible has a lot to say about healing. The Bible also has a lot to say about healthy living, the so called Bible Health Laws from the Laws of Moses. The book of Leviticus from chapters 11 to 20 are full of such laws. e.g. what not to eat, what animal not to touch etc.
Many people debate on the relevancy of these laws but many of these laws are being validated by nutritionists and other scientists. For example, to quote Eerdmans' Handbook of the Bible,
"Today we are able to understand and appreciate the sound principles of diet, hygiene and medicine which these laws express."

Divine healing and forgiveness are correlated. Check this story of a paralytic man.
Mark 2:3-5 and 9-12
3Some men came, bringing to him a paralytic, carried by four of them. 4Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and, after digging through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on. 5When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."
...9Which is easier: to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up, take your mat and walk'? 10But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins . . . ." He said to the paralytic, 11"I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home." 12He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all...

Finally, I leave you with a link to few Healing Bible verses that you can go through. Whatever illness you or your loved one is suffering from, trust God for healing.

Divine health is real. Practice it.

Divine healing is real. Believe it.
